You lose time doing work you should be getting paid for and you’ll lose customers in the long run due to poor reputation. What’s the point of doing 8+ jobs a day if you miss things from rushing and end up having to fix them again for free. No matter how fast you do a job if you don’t do it right you’ll be going back to fix it.

Far too often technicians receive little or no training, or if they do receive training, it is from someone who doesn't know how to properly replace a windshield himself or herself and therefore passes on bad habits.Ĭoncentrate on doing the job perfect and to industry standards every time. Hopefully you have a good supervisor or mentor that continues to help you along the way. I know many shops operate differently than I did but in my shop I rarely let a new technican fly solo on a vehicle they had never worked on before until they had 12 months of supervised experience and had demonstrated proficiency in replacing windshields in a variety of different vehicles. You may or may not be good now but a year from now you will be better and faster, and 5 years from now you will be far better and faster than you are after 1 year.if you continue to focus on improving your skills. There are a lot of fast technicians out there that I would never want to touch my car and 4 months just isn't enough time to perfect the craft in my opinion. However, at 4 months in I recommend focusing more on improving the quality of your installations than the time it takes to do them. Knowing which tool to grab and how best to use it for a particular application will cut a significant amount of time from your overall replacement times. I'm sure you have already figured out that different methods of revoving the glass produce different results and that while one method works better for a particular model another method may work better for other models. Once you have done the same vehicle type dozens of times the process will become second nature. From my communications with Dann ( and consultation with Kevin, Phil) this would have failed already if it didn't work.I don't have any secrets to getting faster but you will improve your speed with repetition. In fairness, I have only driven 20+ miles with new set up with no leaks and accurate(?) speedo. Remove - grind a new slot (in my case about 30 degrees clockwise AFTER the existing slot ) and then reinstall. (Good idea to have the rear wheels jacked up so that you can see the rotation)

What I did was to install the drive, (with the TAB slot way before vertical ) and rotate it clockwise until it wouldn't seem to go any further, back it off a bit and then mark where the retaining tab should hit the drive.

This is because the pinion gear is much LARGER than the stock 18 tooth. While the 58SXX does FIT and SEAL in the appropriate HOLE in the tranny, it DOESN'T align EXACTLY with the tab slot on the drive.

Installed NEW NISSAN 32702-58S20 (from I think a 300ZX) (where the 20 is the number of teeth) and all seems to be pretty accurate (i.e. speedometer/odometer was running about 10 MPH FASTER using 18 tooth pinion (stock in my 5 speed) 195- 60 R14 tires.ĭue to lower profile tires/wheel etc.
